THE VIEW FROM THE CURB, Jacob M. Appel’s second collection of poems, draws upon the author’s experiences as a psychiatrist, ethicist and historian, to offer a nuanced reflection on a suburban childhood under the shadow of his grandfather’s youth in pre-war Europe.  Drawing on comedic devices to cope with tragic events, Appel blends formal meter with novel structures to create a distinctive voice and style uniquely suited to the odd yet familiar universe in which he lives.
